Bruno Fernandes Eager to Reclaim Goalscoring Form for Manchester United
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has expressed his determination to overcome his recent goalscoring drought and return to his best form. The 30-year-old midfielder has not found the net in 15 club matches, a streak that dates back to April.
Ahead of Portugal’s Nations League clash against Poland on Saturday, Fernandes acknowledged that he has fallen short of his own expectations. “As for the club, I want to improve as soon as I get there and make sure the goals start coming again,” he stated, as reported by Reuters. He emphasized his role as a midfielder who typically contributes significantly to the scoreboard, highlighting his history of maintaining high goalscoring standards.
Despite Manchester United’s struggles this season, with only five goals scored in the Premier League — the joint second-worst record in the league — Fernandes is committed to turning things around for both himself and the team. “I also have my own standards; I don’t hold back on that,” he remarked. “I haven’t scored for the club yet, and I hope that as soon as I get there, I can score and help the club get back to winning ways and to a good level.”
Since joining United in 2020, Fernandes has built an impressive record, netting 79 goals and providing 70 assists in 244 appearances. However, he has yet to score this season, contributing to United’s disappointing start, currently sitting in 14th place with just eight points from their first seven matches — their worst performance in the Premier League era.
Manchester United will seek to improve their form when they face Brentford at home on October 19.
