Kyle Chandler in Talks to Star in HBO’s ‘Lanterns’ DC Series
EXCLUSIVE: Emmy Award winner Kyle Chandler is in negotiations to join the cast of Lanterns, HBO’s highly anticipated series based on the Green Lantern DC comic, sources tell Deadline.
While no official comments have been made, it is reported that Chandler is set to portray Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern character previously played by Ryan Reynolds in the 2011 film.
The series, created by Ozark’s Chris Mundy, Watchmen’s Damon Lindelof, and comic book writer Tom King, focuses on new recruit John Stewart and the legendary Lantern Jordan as they delve into a dark, Earth-based mystery while investigating a murder in the heart of America.
The casting process for the role of Stewart is still ongoing.
Lanterns consists of eight episodes and is produced by HBO in collaboration with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios. Mundy will serve as the showrunner, with Lindelof and King co-writing and executive producing. The project received a straight-to-series order in June, marking one of the inaugural titles under the revamped DC Studios.
“John Stewart and Hal Jordan are two of DC’s most compelling characters, and Lanterns brings them to life in an original detective story that is a foundational part of the unified DCU we’re launching next summer with Superman,” stated James Gunn and Peter Safran, co-chairmen and co-CEOs of DC Studios, at the series announcement.
Chandler, known for his iconic role in Friday Night Lights, has also starred in Bloodline, Catch-22, and Super Pumped. He will next appear in Back in Action and Anniversary. Chandler is represented by Gersh and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
